The Lujans started this family-run business in this location in 2001. Their son and daughter work in the hostel as well, but rotate shifts, as they also run the family's hostel in Lima.
Hostal Alpes Huaraz is also a good place to book your tours in the Huaraz region, whether you´re staying in the hostel or not.
In total, Alpes Huaraz has 15 rooms, split between doubles, triples and quadruples. In addition, 2 dorms exist, accommodating up to 15 travellers.
With the exception of the dormitories, each room is equipped with a private bathroom and cable TV.
Prices start at 35 Soles for a single room. A double or matrimonial room costs 50 Soles and a triple room costs 75 Soles.
Continental or American breakfasts are served between 7.30am and 10am in the communal area and are included in the overnight price (dorm guests pay extra for breakfast). Further services include 24hrs hot water (combined solar energy and gas heating), use of a basic kitchen, free internet incl. Skype (dorm guests pay 2 Nuevos Soles per hour) and free WiFi. The free luggage storage comes in very handy if you plan on trekking the Cordillera Blanca and you can leave your valuables at reception. A small book exchange is available as well. Furthermore, you can have your laundry done for 3.50 Nuevos Soles per kilogram. The large communal area with chimney is open to all guests, although you have to pay a little extra for the wood if you want to use it.
Reservations are recommended during high season (June, July, August as well as for Semana Santa in April).
The reception is open 24 hrs and English, Spanish and French is spoken.
You can also book your trips around Huaraz at the hostel. The most commonly booked trips include the hike around Lagunas Llanganuco, the 4-day Santa Cruz trek and the day visit to the ruins of Chavín de Huantar. The latter trip includes a stop at the beautiful Querococha mountain lake, private transportation and an experienced guide. Lunch and the park entrance fee (11 Nuevos Soles) are not included. The drive to Chavín de Huantar is approx. 3,5 hours, but the beauty of this 3,000 year old stone fortress certainly makes up for that. With 35 Nuevos Soles for this day trip, you´ll find that Alpez Huaraz is very competitively priced.
