Situated in the popular La Candaleria part of town where most backpackers and hostels are to be found, this hostel opened in Aug 2010 and is run by friendly French owner Olivier. Olivier speaks fluent French, English and Spanish.
The hostel has a restaurant/bar attached next door with a big screen tv, great for sports fans and there is a 10% discount on food and drink for Alterego Guests. The bar music can be a bit noisy but it closes around 11pm through the week and a bit later at weekends so that it doesn´t disturb the guests.
The hostel has two private rooms with ensuite bathroom which cost 70,000 to 75,000 Pesos and one with shared bathroom which costs 50,000 Pesos. A family room with a double bed, one single bed and a bunk bed costs 70,000. The 8 bed dorm costs 18,000 pesos per person and the 6 bed dorm costs 20,000 Pesos per person. All bathrooms have 24 hour hot water.
A simple cooked breakfast is included in the price and coffee is available free of charge all day.
There are a range of products for sale at reception such as toothpaste, soap, snacks, beer and soft drinks.
Lockers are available for guest use and there´s a well equipped guest kitchen. There is a small common area which has a computer with free internet access and free wifi for guests.
The hostel has a laid back atmosphere and is kept tidy and clean.
Free walking tours of the Candelaria are offered which is a great way to help get your bearings and several other tours can be organised by the hostel as and when required.
Bicycle rental is available for 30,000 Pesos per day or 30,000 Pesos per half day with guide.
Taxi: from the bus terminal a taxi costs around 13,000 Pesos and from the airport it should be about 20,000 Pesos.
Transmilenio: Public transport can also be taken to reach the hostel. Catch the Transmilenio to station Museo de Oro (Gold Museum) on Ave. Jimenez and from there it´s just 5 minutes walk. It's advisable to use taxis after nightfall.
