Casa Kanela, Quito, Ecuador

Casa Kanela offers a peaceful haven in a quiet street in the buzzing Mariscal district, just minutes away from many bars, restaurants and internet cafes. It is also just 6 bus stops away (Ecovía) from the old town of Quito.

Almost 2 years ago, the siblings Carlos and Gabriela Andrade restored their parental house, where they both were born, and turned it into a hostel. They named the hostel after their grandfather, who´s artists name was "Kanela". The old house is a protected monument and still has most of its original features, like the fireplace and the wooden floors. The big living room with TV and fireplace, the front garden and the patio give the hostel a nice homely atmosphere.
Facilities...

The hostel has 9 rooms, varying from large rooms with high ceilings and big windows, to smaller cozy attic rooms. The private rooms accommodate between one and four people and there is a 4-bed dormitory. Most rooms have an en-suite bathroom. A dorm-bed costs $10. The rate for a private room with/without bathroom is $19/$12.50 for 1 person, $30/$24 for two persons, $38/34 for 3 persons and $42/37 for 4 persons.

An extensive breakfast is included in the overnight price and is served between 7:30 and 10:00 am. Coffee, beer, sodas, juices and small snacks are for sale all day long.

The reception is open 24 hrs a day and Carlos and Gabriela speak Spanish, English, French and Italian. There is always someone available if you need any kind of information. They can also refer you to their preferred tour operators offering tours in Quito and the rest of Ecuador. The hostel has a non-smoking policy, smoking is only permitted on the patio. Check-out is at noon.

Further services include: free internet and WIFI, book exchange (1 for 1), luggage storage and a safe for valuables. Laundry service is available at 50m from the hostel and, if requested, they deliver to the hostel when ready.

It is best to make a reservation by phone, email or through the online reservation system at the bottom of this page.
