One of the newest backpacker orientated hostels on the Cartagena block, this unassuming, quiet and homely hostel is located right in the heart of Getsemeni, a few minutes walk from the old historic centre.
Colombian Arturo opened the hostel in October 2008 having recognised the need for the city to cater for the growing number of backpackers now visiting the city. With good facilities, good prices and a great location, Casa Venecia is an ideal place to base yourself whilst visiting this colonial gem.
Facilities...
There are all the facilities required for a hassle-free and easy stay in the city. 2 computers with free internet are available as well as free wifi. There is also a scanner/printer for guest use.Free coffee is provided in the spacious self catering kitchen.
As well as the hammocks in some of the rooms there are also a few strung up in the communal area out in the open air for sunbathing or relaxing. Another communal space is the TV lounge with sofa chairs and coffee table, drinks fridge and a balcony overlooking the street, also the designated smoking area.

Arturo's wife, Doris, runs a hairdresser's next door and she offers special rates for Casa Venecia guests for waxes, massages, dyeing and haircuts.
Reception is open 24/7 and Arturo's daughter Carolina is often at hand and speaks great English. It really is a family operation.
As the hostel is locally run they have all the contacts needed to help guests book any tours they wish to do in Cartagena including the famous Volcan Totumo mud volcano, Isla Rosario and Playa Blanca, Cartagena city tour, information on sailing to Panama with reliable captains and chivas party bus tours.

How 2 get there...
The hostel is right in the heart of the traditional neighbourhood of Getsemeni and is probably easiest to get to by taxi from the airport or bus terminal. Once there, from the busy Avenue Daniel Lemaitre which sepearates Getsemeni from the commercial centre of La Matuna, turn onto Calle Tripita y Media. The hostel is in a small doorway on the left almost as soon as you turn onto this road, next to a bakery.
