Casa Viena - Cartagena, Colombia

As one of the original backpacker hostels in Colombia, Casa Viena has stayed one of the most popular and sociable places to stay in Cartagena.

Opened over 15 years ago by Hans Kolland, Casa Viena has the winning formula of a friendly welcome, all the facilities a traveller could ask for and clean, comfortable accommodation in spacious rooms.

With endless information from a man who clearly knows the area well, Casa Viena is a great place to base yourself while visiting Cartagena and exploring the surrounding area.

Facilities...

With nine rooms varying in size from singles to eight bed dorms, most of the rooms have shared bathrooms although there is the option of en-suite. Several of the rooms also have cable tv and some even have their own little balconies.

Casa Viena has kept to reasonable backpacker prices charging 16,000 Pesos for a single to 42,000 Pesos for three people in a private room with cable TV and ensuite bathroom. Dorm beds cost 11,000 Pesos.

The terrace kitchen should have everything you need to self-cater and makes a sociable dining area, the perfect way to meet other travellers!

There are safety boxes available to lock up your valuables at the reception.

Soft drinks are on sale from the reception and there is Internet access available for 1,500 Pesos per hour.

Tours to Isla Rosario and Playa Blanca can be booked through the hostel as well as trips on a Chiva, party bus!

How 2 get there...
If arriving in Cartagena either from the bus station or the airport, the simplest way to get into town is by taxi. This should cost an absolute maximum of 15,000 Pesos. There are local buses which also make the run to the centre.

Once in the centre of town, head for the well known Calle Media Luna where the majority of hostels and hotels are based and turn onto Calle San Andres . Casa Viena is a few houses along on the left and is a red building with a Viena sign above the door.
