If you’re ready for a slight increase in your lodging budget, you’ll be surprised what a huge difference a minor splurge can make. Casa Villa Colonial, the second to be built in a 3-chain hotel run by the Alzaté family, is an immaculate choice for those ready to jump to mid-range accommodations.
In the Getsemani neighborhood right on Media Luna---a bustling street with cafes, restaurants and bars, this hotel is clean, friendly and vibrant. The building is structured in traditional colonial architecture with an open and airy center and rooms spread out on two floors.
Walk through the entryway and you’ll find a sitting area with books and a wi-fi enabled computer. Terra-cotta tiles and giant brick archways lead you into an open-roof center with sitting and dining areas.
Casa Villa Colonial is run with Colombian hospitality. Most days, you’ll find one member of the Alzaté family at reception or greeting guests close by. Aside from the main street noise, this hotel is very quiet. Built with comfort and hospitality in mind, the Alzaté family upholds a policy of nondiscrimination. The staff is extremely friendly and will answer your questions or help you with anything, always “con gusto.”
The hotel boasts 13 rooms with private bathrooms. Each room has air conditioning, fans, towels and cable television. There are multiple set-ups such as one double bed with a single, two double beds with one single or three single beds.
There is also a small kitchen which guests can use, free wifi, free coffee, safes to store valuables and laundry service upon request.
Rooms range from 80,000 COP for a single person to 50,000 COP per person when split between three people. These rates may be pricey for the average budget traveler, but the jump in quality is superb and well worth the money. Casa Villa Colonial is a great choice for families.
An added bonus of staying at Casa Villa Colonial is access to the amenities at its sister hotels, which includes a pool at nearby Hotel Casa Mara. The pool is a bit small, but trust us, you’ll love it on a typical Cartegena day.
A taxi from the bus terminal into the Getsemani neighborhood will run you about 20,000 COP. A taxi from the airport will run about 9,000 COP. Taxi drivers will know Calle Media Luna as it’s a major street.
