Cali is a big and bustling city with a warm climate and pleasant atmosphere. Although there are comparatively few sights of special interest, just wandering through the mix-match architecture and relaxing in the sociable parks and plazas is a nice way to spend a few days.
The city has made it's reputation in traveller circles thanks to it's happening nightlife and social scene and as such is an increasingly popular destination. The Salsa capital of Colombia provides great opportunities to test out those dance moves and hit the fashionable bars and restaurants with the friendly locals.
For party seekers and those who enjoy the faster paced city life, Cali shouldn't disappoint. For others, it serves as a great starting point for exploring the treasures of this part of the country. With the Farallones national park a short journey away, the famous village of San Cipriano and as the main access point for Isla Gorgona, Cali is worth a visit.
San Cipriano is the perfect place for anyone wanting a break from the city. This riverside village is a lovely spot to enjoy the jungly scenery, take a trek to the waterfalls or just relax and soak up the lazy, small-town atmosphere. Perhaps the highlight of any trip is the journey. Accessable by a rather unusual means of transportation, the adventure begins at Cordoba about 2 hours west of Cali. From the town you must make your way to the railway-line then jump on a trolley which is manually pushed along the tracks to the village of San Cipriano!
Isla Gorgona is another trip worth considering from Cali, used as a prison less than 25 years ago, this island is now a national park and the nature lovers dream. From turtles to monkeys to humpback whales, this three day trip can be taken either through tour companies based in Cali or can be done independently by catching a boat from Buenaventura.
