At first glance Nuqui appears to offer very little to the visitor who has made it out to this remote pacific outpost, yet it is not the driftwood strewn beach that has brought you this far but the natural wonders that are located within reasonable boat rides from the town.
As with Bahia Solano located up to the north, Nuqui is for adventurous nature lovers seeking to hit the waves, hike the area’s verdant forests, scuba dive and then kick back and switch off in a degree of luxury in some award winning eco-lodges.
Whether your visit coincides with the annual migration south of the humpback whales and their young in the months of August through to October, or is inspired by good surf on the shores of Cabo Corrientes or the desire to take a kayak through the mangroves of Coqui these eco-lodges will not disappoint.
Electricity is provided by generators and the coastline is mercifully afflicted with no cell phone signals so the surrounding areas of Nuqui are ideal for long slumbering nights set to the soundtrack of the ocean waves crashing, the songs of the venomous tree frogs and the breeze whistling through the palm frond roof of your cabana.
There are three options of accommodation in Nuqui itself but the real destinations are the eco-lodges that can be found to the north and south of the town. Most of these establishments, Piedra Piedra, Pijiba Lodge, El Cantil and Morromico are all equipped to suggest and recommend incredible itineraries. Be warned that prices are not low but that all meals and non alcoholic drinks are included in the packages offered.
Should you wish to further explore the coastline be aware that boats do not always make the journeys you are planning so you will need to be flexible with your plans. Also, there is often a great shortage in gasoline and boat drivers will need the journey contracted to make worth their while.
