This area is one of the true highlights of Colombia's Caribbean coast. With stretches of Jungly, coastal mountains giving way to palm-shaded coves and crystal waters, this is a little taste of tropical paradise. Offering beautiful treks to visit pre-colombian ruins and some of the country's most stunning and secluded bays, this is certainly a worthwhile detour and a fantastic experience.
The main places to stay within the park are Arrecifes and Cañaveral with accommodation and eateries practically on the sand. From here there are trails to nearby beauty spots or you could simply relax on the beach listening to the waves and birdsong. There are also areas of coral reef accessible from the shore so snorkeling is a possibility if you have your own gear.

How 2 get there...
Tours to the National Park leave from both Santa Marta and Taganga but it is easy enough to go independently. Take a bus from the market in Santa Marta (Calle 11 and Carrera 11) to El Zaíno and from there you can walk the rest or take a collectivo to Cañaveral. Arrecifes is 45 minutes walk west of here along a well-trodden path.
