Cranky Croc Hostel, Bogota, Colombia

Opened in 2008, Cranky Croc is tipped to become one of the backpacker favourites in the Candelaria. Australian owner Andy Farrington has tastefully restored a 200 year old colonial building into the perfect backpacker hostel right in the heart of Colombia's capital.

Having spent many years backpacking himself, Andy has spent plenty of time both in and out of hostels and knows very well what the backpacker wants! With this in mind, he has managed to tastefully refurbish the Cranky Croc, keeping all the original features whilst paying the utmost attention to the modern details that the backpacker craves.

The Cranky Croc has a range of accommodation including 4 to 10 bed dorms costing 20,000 Pesos per night. Single rooms range from 40,000 - 50,000 Pesos (without/with bathroom) and doubles from 50,000 - 60,000 Pesos. Triple and quad rooms can also be booked for 75,000 - 100,000 Pesos per night depending on how many people are sharing and whether the room has a private or shared bathroom.

The downstairs kitchen is large and modern, with two stoves, two sinks and loads of storage space not to mention free coffee.

There’s a large, cozy lounge with working fireplace and a 42” flat screen TV. Games are available, as is a library and a high speed internet room with modern PC’s with Skype and CD/DVD burning facilities.

Laundry facilities are available with quick turn around time and there’s well stocked fridge with happy hour as well!

Upstairs the dorms are extremely spacious and come with thick mattresses, comfy duvets, lots of hooks for towels etc and individual reading lamps. Every guest has their own large storage lockers with power points inside so that you can charge your electrical appliances.

There are 9 toilets, 6 showers and 2 hot water systems so that you can get a powerful, piping hot shower any time you want. The sinks have been placed separately so that you don’t have to wait for someone to get out of the shower before you can brush your teeth!

Breakfasts are on sale every morning and drinks can be ordered at the attached bar every evening.

The Cranky Croc is perfectly located for all of the sights and museums in the Candeleria and close to lots of public transport for those venturing to other parts of Bogota.

How 2 get there...

La Candelaria is easily accessed by taxi from the bus terminal (8,000 Pesos) airport (18,600 Pesos) or by public transport.

The trans-milenio stops not far from Cranky Croc at station Museo de Oro. From there walk up to Crepes & Waffles veer right up Calle 15 for a block and a half and you'll find the hostel on the left side of the street.
