Hostal Chasqui opened in the year 2000 when local Otavalan, Roberto, purchased a block of land located five blocks from Parque Bolivar. Over the past years, Roberto has gradually built up the hostal to its current three levels, creating fantastic views over the town from the roof top terrace. The purchase of the colonial house next door has helped to expand his capacity and he also has future plans to create a relaxing garden area with hammocks.
There are a number of small kitchens available for guest use and there is also a BBQ on the roof top terrace which can be pulled out when there are a number of people interested. You are free to make yourself a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, the laundry service is also free to use and they have a growing book exchange.
For those feeling energetic, the hostal rents out bikes for $4 per day. For over-land travellers, the hostal has a garage available for cars or motorbikes. There is a bar (and karaoke!) downstairs which generally opens most weekends, or when there is demand. This area also boasts a projector for big screen movie nights.
Roberto and Sofia (who work in the hostel and speak English) are both happy to help you out with tourist information for the town and surrounding areas. They are also happy to accommodate groups and long term stays.
