Hostal Monarca is a family-run hostel conveniently located in the heart of Cuenca. The funky art, draping plants, and sponge painted walls of bright greens and earthy oranges make this old colonial style building truly unique. The main entry opens to a mellow bar/resaurant sunlit by the enormous skylight overhead.
Upstairs, the creaky hardwood floors snake around the indoor balconies leading to rooms of various sizes. Set amidst plenty of cafes and restaurants, and just 3 blocks from the beautiful Parque Calderón, this hostel is a great place to base yourself while exploring Ecuador´s Colonial Gem.
The friendly owners are happy to supply maps, recomendations, and information about the city.
Facilities...
You´ll find no bunkbeds here, even in the dorm, almost all the beds are double sized which makes for a great night sleep. The bathrooms are shared, but plans are in the works to incorporate private baths into some of the rooms. The cost is a flat rate of $7 per person. All rooms open up into the inner sunlit hallway and some have balconies overlooking the street. Bar services are available as well as home made plates of the local Ecuadorian cuisine. Numerous internet cafes are within a block of the hostel, including one directly next door, and laundry service is just around the corner.
