Opened in October 2011, Hostel Caracol is located in a 16th century colonial building in the heart of Popayan's colonial centre. This hostel offers all of the services a backpacker could wish for but in a more laid-back relaxed atmosphere. The hostel itself is located just 3.5 blocks from the main square of Popayan and a stones throw from all the major attractions. Hostel Caracol is also a favourite amongst long-stayers who want to spend a bit of time in Popayan as it offers great deals on 2 week and one month stays as well as combo deals with bike rental and Spanish classes.
Hostel Caracol has a range of accommodation including dorm beds at 18,000 Pesos per person, single rooms at 30,000 Pesos and double rooms at 45,000 Pesos for the room. All rooms are in a colonial style with beautiful wooden beds, comfortable new mattresses and the private rooms also have European-style duvets and 2 pillows per person to ensure you have a comfortable and warm nights sleep.
There is a fully equipped self-catering kitchen available 24 hours a day as well as free WiFi and internet use at 2,000 Pesos per hour. The hostel also offers bike rental at 15,000 Pesos per day which includes a puncture repair kit and helmet. Spanish classes are also available.
Being a small hostel, Hostel Caracol aims to offer the same services to those who visit the city as the other bigger hostels.
