Every room at Hotel Outback Hermosa has a view of the ocean, even the kitchen. This is probably because it was built by a surfer. Jeff, who first visited Playa Hermosa 18 years ago, built the hotel himself and now lives downstairs (with an ocean view). The hotel is small with only 4 rooms, though each room is large enough for a number of people. Hotel Outback Hermosa has a quiet and private feel to it.
facilities...The rooms have a variety of bed arrangements from all bunks to doubles and singles. Outback Hermosa can accommodate groups of up to 8 people in one room. Every room has a bathroom (hot water shower), air conditioning, cable TV, wi-fi access and a verandah with a view of the beach. Rooms cost $15 per person. Couples or groups will be given a private room, solo travelers can have a shared room for $15 or pay $20 for a private room.
There is an outdoor communal kitchen where you can watch the surf while you cook, a laundry service for $5 per load and space for secure off street parking next to the hotel. Jeff offers surf lessons and board rentals, a 2hr lesson with board is $50. And if you are in need of any info on Surfing in Costa Rica or want to organize a surf tour, Jeff is your man.
How to get there...Hotel Outback Hermosa is in Playa Hermosa, which is 5km south of Jaco along the coastal highway. A taxi from Jaco will cost 3000 Colones or you can catch the bus heading for Quepos.
Look out for a large blue and white sign on the highway pointing to the hotel.
