Hotel Mar Azul (not to be confused with "Gran Hotel Mar Azul", which is across the street) is a friendly family hostel and the oldest hostel in San Cristóbal. For over 30 years, Mrs Amada León and Mr Manuel Romero have been running the hostel on Avenida Alsacio Northia.
The hostel is a bit further away from the main municipal dock, but it´s well worth the 5 minutes walk as the rooms are quiet, clean, well equiped and have comfortable beds. Most rooms are located around 2 nicely leafed green patios. Try to get one of these rooms, as they are the quietest.
The double rooms with air conditioning cost $40 ($25 in the case it is occupied by just one person). The double rooms with fans cost $30 (or $20 for one person). The air conditioned quadruple room costs $70 for four persons or $60 when only 3 guests are staying. For the 4-person room with fan $60 is charged ($48 for three persons).
All prices exclude the obligatory 12% IVA (Value Added Tax).
The mini bar offers Gatorade and cola for $1.50 and water for $0.50. Internet for the hotel guests is soon to be installed. There is a large communal area (which used to serve as a restaurant, but not anymore).
The spanish speaking reception is open 24hrs (new arrivals can use the door bell after office hours). All hotel guests receive a key to the front door.

From the municipal dock in the centre, it´s an easy 5 minute stroll along the waterfront. At the end of the boulevard, keep left and walk 2 blocks up until Avenida Alsacio Northia. Turn right there and after half a block, the hotel is on your right.
You can also take a taxi. The standard price within Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, as well as from the airport, is $1.
