Opened in early 2008 by journalist Richard McColl and his Colombian girlfriend Alba Torres, La Casa Amarilla is Mompos' first true backpacker destination.

La Casa Amarilla is situated right in front of the mighty Magdalena River and benefits from the cooling breeze. The hostel is located in the heart of colonial Mompos also allows visitors to easily make the most of the charming town centre, particularly during Mompos' famous Easter celebrations.

This is a great place to relax and enjoy the the character of the surroundings and also a base from which to explore the surrounding cienagas.

Facilities...
La Casa Amarilla sleeps up to 14 people in both dorm beds and private rooms. During Semana Santa, there is also the possibility to rent hammocks.

The hostel has a capacity of 26 people with both dorm and private room accommodation available. Dorm beds cost 15,000 Pesos while private rooms cost 40,000 Pesos per couple for a room without air conditioning or 65,000 Pesos with air con. There is a 10,000 Peso supplement for each additional person. It's worth noting that prices rise steeply during Easter and pre-booking is required.

The house has one large entry room equipped with an information board, dining room table and rocking chairs.

There is also a TV/DVD room complete with magazines and sofas, an internal garden and a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. Bikes are also available for hire direct from the hostel.

How 2 get there...
The easiest way to reach La Casa Amarilla is by moto-taxi. You will need to give the driver the full address and be sure to mention the kiosks, la Alberrada and the Iglesia Santa Barbara as nearby landmarks. A mototaxi within Mompos will cost you 600 pesos per person.
