La Jungla hostel and B+B was opened in late 2008 and is the latest addition to the Mirador Adventures project. With the sister hostel, Hostel Nomba, based in Boquete, La Jungla offers an excellent base for backpackers in Panama`s bustling capital. The hostel is located over two floors of an apartment block in the safe and clean El Congrejo neighbourhood. The open plan social areas give the hostel a cosy, homely feel creating a relaxed environment in which to meet fellow travellers.
The hostel is run by the knowledgeable, local family of the owners, Ryan and Rosy. Information is available at reception regarding the Mirador Adventures tour company and the Nomba hostel in Boquete, as well as a host of other popular destinations in Panama.
There are 3 dorms and 5 private rooms priced at $12 for a bed and $29 to $49 for a private room. The more expensive rooms include breakfast. Breakfast is optional for other guests.
Two TV lounges and a large, well equipped kitchen are free for guests to use, as well as internet and WiFi available throughout the hostel.
A 24 hour laundry service is available for $4.50. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are also available at reception.
Finally the hostel has 2 terraces with a view of the city.
From the airport: a taxi will take around 40 minutes and set you back around $22. Taking the other route (which misses the road toll) costs $15-$17 but takes around 2.5 hours.
Buses are available from the bus terminal and the airport to the centre, however, they are often crowded and unmarked making your journey especially difficult with backpacks.
The hostel can be tricky to find as its inside an apartment block. It's best to tell the Taxi "Hotel Las Huacas". From there you will find it 3 buildings up on the same side of the road.
