San Gil, Santander founded in 1689 and home to 40,000 people has always been very popular with Colombian tourists with over 5,000 vistors daily during high season. A mixture of Adventure activities, the famous Parque Gallineral (botanical gardens), good weather, great nightlife and its close proximity to Barichara (national monument and arguably Colombias most beautiful small town) has seen San Gil appear in the Backpackers list of places you must visit in Colombia.
