Dress Up Bunk Beds for Kids' Parties
by Andy Peter

Sleepovers are easy. They are all about staying up too late, gorging on junk food and playing lots of silly games. Decorating for a slumber party, however, can seem a bit more challenging. How do you decorate the bedroom –or should you? If your children have bunk beds, you have an advantage. Bunk beds are ideal starting points for embellishing your child's room in the birthday party theme.

For instance, if you are hosting a birthday party with a swashbuckler theme, you can easily turn bunk beds into pirate ship. Cover the bedroom floor in blue fabric to resemble the stormy seas. Cover the sides of the bed in cardboard with circular portholes cut out around the perimeter. Place a dowel on the top bunk with a white sheet fastened to it for the sail, and don't forget to hang a Jolly Roger flag from it, as well.

For a princess party, cover cardboard tubes in papier-mâché and then paint them pink, purple or gold.
Use a box cutter or craft knife to cut squares from one end of each tube to create turrets. Attach these
to each post of your bunk bed set. Adorn the castle bed with flowing lengths of tulle tied onto the
corners.

Bunk beds dressed up to resemble tree houses or forts are fun for any slumber party theme and easy to
pull off, as well. Attach hooks to the ceiling above the bed in five points: one over the center of the bed
and one at each corner. Insert loops into a large length of fabric such as a queen or king sized bed sheet
and hang the fabric from the loops. Cut a slit in the cloth where the bunk bed's ladder or stairs come up
so that the kids have easy access to the tree house.

Coming up with a way to decorate your child's bunk bed is relatively simple. Just think about the theme
of the party and dream up a structure that goes along with it. Look around your home for items you can
use to dress the bed and be prepared for a night of fun.
