As we build HostelTrail.com from the road, we literally carry our office on our backs! This means that we try to use equipment which we find reliable, light-weight and hard-wearing. After all, travelling through the jungles, mountains and from coast to coast of South America certainly takes it's toll on your equipment!

We are adamant that this style of backpack is just what the traveller needs! Hard-wearing and with a suit-case like packing system, it has several useful compartments and even an detachable day pack.
This is a great piece of kit which has already made several tours to South America, this time not only carrying walking boots and a travel guide but also the entire HostelTrail project!
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro
We've found this to be a great travel companion and of course key to the whole HostelTrail project! Light and slim-line enough to carry in the backpack while still allowing us to do the essential graphics and web design on a wide screen. With the handy extra features like WIFI, this is a great laptop to take with you on the road!
Canon 30D Digital SLR
This camera has proven to be the ideal backpacking SLR. The Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador photos were all taken with this camera and it has allowed us to provide high quality images for many hostels and adventure tour companies. In the last few months, we have trekked in the Colombian jungle, kayaked down grade 4 rapids and flown high in a paraglide all with the 30D to document our work. The large screen, high resolution and fast shooting rate ensures we capture moments we simply cannot afford to miss!
Sigma 24 -70 EX DG 2.8 & Sigma 70 - 300 DG APO Macro
Lightweight, durable and affordable. Sigma lenses give us the best range from taking photos of hostel kitchens to anacondas and crocodiles in the jungle. The wide f/2.8 aperture of the 24-70 lens means we can really make our pictures stand out and the macro feature on our telephoto lens means we no longer need to travel with an additional close-up lens.
