A short bus ride away from Cartagena is a relaxed beach town surrounded by mangrove bays and some beautiful secluded beaches.
For spectacular sunsets and a bit of relaxation time, you might want to consider spending a couple of days in the company of 'Juan' who has been steadily building a home for backpackers over the past few years. Playa Paraiso is a simple but laid-back beach hangout which bases itself on a relaxed approach and as such should help you to make the most of the tranquil surroundings.
Playa Paraiso is currently undergoing a massive expansion operation but at present has one twin room and one double room with television.
This is ideal for those who want a break from the stress of the city and as such, facilities are somewhat basic and bare in mind that you are leaving behind the luxuries of city living.
For those wishing to camp, there is also plenty of space to pitch a tent.
Prices are 10,000 - 15,000 Pesos per person.
From these points, continue walking along the beach (in the same direction as you were going) for about 5 minutes....if you find yourself walking for any longer than this, dive into a bar or shop and ask for 'Juan el Argentino' and you will be shown the right way!
