Posada Del Sol, Bogota, Colombia

Opened in early 2008, Posada del SOL is one of the newer additions to the Bogota Hostel scene. Korean owner Junghoon Kim (aka Danny) welcomes travellers to his hostel in 'La Candelaria', conveniently close to many of the city's top attractions.

Danny has been backpacking since 2003 and is a fully qualified PADI divemaster. He has visited many countries and has an extensive knowledge about travel in Colombia which he happily shares with his guests.

Posada del SOL offers an excellent base in Bogota with good facilities, spanish classes, weekly barbeques and a friendly, international atmosphere.

Posada del SOL has a total capacity of 40 beds consisting of single, twin and double rooms as well as dormitories. Dorm beds cost 17,000 Pesos while private rooms range in price from 32,000 to 47,000 Pesos. There are rooms with private or shared bathroom available. All rooms have comfortable, good quality mattresses and thick, cozy bedding. Double rooms have Queen-sized beds.

The location is just 3 blocks from the Presidential Palace. There is 24-hour security on every street corner in the area of the hostel guaranteeing better security in La Candelaria.

Owned and run by a backpacker, the hostel caters very well to the needs of travellers. There are two self catering kitchens, each with a fridge, stove, microwave, blender, water purifier and plenty of storage space. Free tea and coffee is always available for guests.

There are 6 showers and toilets in the hostel all with reliable hot water 24 hours.

The hostel's TV room is state of the art, offering a 46" LCD TV with surround sound and over 200 Blu-ray movies subtitled in English and Spanish. There is also a selection of video games, board games and table tennis for guest use.

Internet use and WIFI are available free of charge with a speedy 4Mb connection. All computer equipment is new and there are skype facilities and CD burners free for guest use.

There are many social areas and a bar and BBQ area out the back, away from the rooms. BBQs are held every Thursday and cost 10,000 Pesos per person (drinks are included).

Posada del SOL offers Spanish Classes with teachers from the Universidad de Los Andes (250,000 pesos for 15hrs or 625,000 for 60hrs) All study materials can be found on loan in the hostel.

Posada del SOL is also connected to Plan Aventura tour company which organise's trips all over Colombia.
