Hostal Refugio del Rio, owned by couple Tatiana and Luchini, is like a plush home away from home. The hostel is located in a large, 2 storey timber 'casa' and set right on a flowing stream, just a few minutes walk from Parque Central. Boasting large common areas and a massive communal kitchen (fully equiped), this is a great place to relax and meet other travellers.

Tatiana is originally from Costa Rica and previously ran a hostel in Bocas del Toro, before coming to reside Boquete. Luis is a born and bred local and together they have run this hostel for 18 months. They have future plans to expand with the deveopment of four cabins on the property. There's also the option to rent the house next door if you're looking to stay in Boquete for longer.

The hostel has one, six-bed and one 10-bed dormitory all with comfortable single beds and clean shared bathrooms. There's two private rooms to choose from, one double and one triple, both with private bathrooms (and big comfortable beds!!). Prices for the dorms is USD$10 per person, with the private double being USD$25 per room, the triple being USD$35 for two people per night and USD$10 extra for any additional person. Campers are welcome to set up tents for $5 per person. There's an outdoor bathroom available with full use of hostel facilities.

In terms of common areas, there's a large lounge room with big comfortable couches, cable TV and free internet, a massive dining table with plenty of tourist information and a fully eqipped communal kitchen. Outside, there's a BBQ and uncover eating area that is available for all guests. The owners are also happy to open this area up to large groups for functions or events.

Other facilities include laundry (USD$4 for wash and dry, USD$2 for wash only), game, air hockey table and a growing book exchange.

All buses from David terminate on Central Avenue at Parque Central. From Central Avenue, turn right onto the road between the Delta Gas Station and Plaza Los Establos, with the plaza on your right hand side. Cross over the bridge and follow the road as it veers around to the right. From here you will see the sign to the hostel up ahead on your right. Buses from David to Boquete run approximately every 25-30 minutes and the ride takes 1 hour.
