This comfortable and friendly hotel, moments from the train station is a great place from which to see the highlights of the town and the surrounding area. Offering a taste of luxury at a reasonable price, this is a nice place to relax after an active day exploring the area's spectacular Paramo scenery, climbing the slopes of Chimborazo or just taking in the colonial flavours of Riobamba.
Helpful owners Raul Manzano and Maria Insuasti know the region very well and will happily advise you on how to make the most of the area as well as providing useful information about train times for the famous Nariz Del Diablo which leaves a block from the hotel.
With it's handy location, comfortable rooms and wealth of local information, El Tren Dorado is a great place to base yourself in Riobamba.
Facilities...
Tren Dorado has 34 nicely decorated and comfortable rooms, all with ensuite, hot-water bathrooms. Ten of the rooms also have televisions. The rooms sleep between two and four people and cost a set price of $8.00 per person per night with a single occupancy rate of $10.00
The creatively decorated Rainforest Restaurant offers good value evening meals between 4 and 10pm and serves a large buffet breakfast daily for $3.00 (available from 5.30am on days the train leaves).
There are some lovely social seating areas where guests can read or relax, including a lounge room, a roof terrace and garden area.
Additional services on offer include use of the hotel safe, book exchange, mail box and emergency medical treatment.
Future plans are being made to open a tour operator within the hotel offering horse-riding, trekking, caving, excursions to Chimborazo and pre-booking for train tickets.

How 2 get there...
Tren Dorado has a very central location, less than a block from the train station where the Devil's Nose train leaves from. Just off of The main street 10 de Agosto (also called Borja) on Carabobo and with colourful exterior complete with golden train, it's hard to miss!
